About Fetch the Facts

Fetch the Facts was created to help consumers better understand the commercial dog industry through research, public records, consumer education, and accessible information. The goal of this site is not to tell people where they should get a dog, but to provide the tools and knowledge needed to make more informed decisions and better navigate a complex industry that is often difficult for consumers to understand.

This project was built out of growing concerns surrounding unethical breeding practices, misleading marketing, online puppy sales, predatory financing, and the increasing number of dogs entering shelters and rescues. By breaking down laws, inspection records, licensing systems, terminology, and industry practices into simpler language, Fetch the Facts aims to promote transparency, accountability, and responsible decision-making for both consumers and animal welfare.

About Me

My name is Shannon and I have been an animal advocate my entire life. In 2017, I resigned from teaching. I began my journey in the animal advocacy world about a year after our youngest son was born. I volunteered at the local animal shelter, learned how to TNR, and I foster newborn kittens. In early 2024, one question kept weighing on my mind: “Why are the shelters and rescues always at maximum capacity?” I have spent that last few years in deep research, visiting pet stores, volunteering for numerous organizations, speaking to public officials and members of the state legislature. I don’t have the full answer yet, but after a lot of work, I’ve uncovered a system tangled in complex laws, loopholes, and a desperate need for education and resources.

Fetch the Facts is my way of turning my research into action. By creating a one-stop, easy-to-use resource for buying and adopting responsibly, my hope is that this website will be one way to educate the public about the pet industry with facts, not opinions and slow the steady stream of animals entering shelters daily.
